One thing has remained the same – the Pumas are a tough bunch! The 128 Core Partners have been making their pledge payments. New donors have stepped forward and offered their support. We have raised over $1,468,200 in gifts and pledges to date and it’s still growing. Many of you have joined us for a Zoom meeting, returned a phone call, or sent an email. Your continued support, not just monetarily, but kind words, thoughts, and prayers have kept us going. As we begin to slowly emerge from our homes and return to regular activities, we hope to continue to hear from you. Exciting things are going on at Campus. Healthcare classes have begun on campus. Tuckpointing of the Chapel is being completed over the next several weeks and will ensure the exterior of the Chapel is secure for many years to come. A new HVAC system is being installed in the Core building. Once completed the Core building will be removed from the aging complex boiler system and will make it a stand-alone building. More information about those projects will be shared in the July newsletter. As we continue to grow and forge ahead, we continue to ask for your support. Keep us in your daily prayers. If you would like to make a pledge or one-time gift, please contact Beth Graf, Director of Communication and Development, or visit www.saintjoe.edu/give. Have a blessed summer! We have hosted Zoom meetings for the 128 Core Partners to explain the plan and answer questions. Our goal is to continue the Zoom meetings to keep the communication flowing. Saint Joseph's College (Indiana), a Catholic college founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, pledges itself to a tradition of excellence and to a liberal education that is a united endeavor of intelligence and faith. Easter Time Greetings During this time of questions, concern and worry, we can identify with the apostles in the upper room after the crucifixion.  They were confused and felt their world was crashing down around them after the death of Jesus.  With the loss of life, jobs, social distancing and no church services in most places, many of us also feel as though our futures are very insecure. Just like the apostles in the upper room, we await the appearance of Christ.  We need to remember that he is present among us whether we gather together in church or not.  The risen Christ is among us whether we are able to gather physically as family or not.  The risen Christ reaches out to us through the first responders, the grocery store workers and all other essential services workers.  We need only stay focused on the presence of Christ within us and around us whether physically or virtually.  Every time someone helps us or we help others it is Christ saying, “Peace be with you.” Our wish and prayer for all of our alumni and friends is that you are safe and may experience the resurrection through Christ’ presence in yourselves and in one another during the Triduum and Easter Season this year. The SJC Board of Trustees and Staff Zoom Meetings for 128 Core Partners In light of the current situation our nation faces, we postponed in-person meetings with the 128 Core Partners to explain the comprehensive three-year plan. The 128 Core Partner are invited to join us in Zoom meetings where we will dive deeper into the plan for Saint Joseph’s College.  If you would like to join us for a zoom meeting, please contact Beth Graf with your availability.  Also contact Beth for more information on how to become a 128 Core Partner. Alumni and Donor Meetings Postponed As all of you know, the COVID-19 situation continues to evolve very quickly. Both the spread of the virus and the responses to mitigate that spread (PK-12 school closings, daycare closings, etc.) have impacted all of our lives in some way. To assist with social distancing and to diminish transmission of the disease, we will be postponing our alumni meetings regarding the comprehensive 3-year plan until the pandemic has calmed. We pray all of our alumni and friends of the College stay safe and healthy during this uncertain time. Registration is Open for Medical Certification Programs at SJC Now accepting applications for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) classes beginning this spring! Scholarships are available. Saint Joseph's College (Indiana), a Catholic college founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, pledges itself to a tradition of excellence and to a liberal education that is a united endeavor of intelligence and faith. College Enlists Aid of Hunter Global Education In its drive to return academic programming to the Rensselaer campus, Trustees have enlisted the aid of Hunter Global Education. Hunter is led by Dr. William J. Carroll. Carroll was formerly the president of Benedictine University for twenty years during which time the institution grew from fourteen hundred students to almost eleven thousand. During that time, The Chronicle of Higher Education named Benedictine the “fastest-growing university in the country” for ten consecutive years. The Saint Joseph’s College Mission is alive and well and is the warrant and guide for us to move forward in exciting directions. Overview The “founding” of an institution is not a one-time event. It is a continuous founding by successive generations of “founders” guided and inspired by the institutions’ mission. Saint Joseph’s College has been on an exciting and groundbreaking journey since its founding in 1889. This journey has been met with twists and turns in the road with the College stopping “to recreate” itself at times — all of which the College has navigated successfully. In spring 2017, the Saint Joseph’s College Board of Trustees voluntarily suspended the College’s accreditation and operations in order “to recreate”— to work on the next chapter of the institution’s journey. The goal is to restore Saint Joseph’s College as a viable and model Catholic liberal arts institution for the 21st century offering academic programs at the Rensselaer campus. The 128 Core Partners Plan Update The 128 Core Partners document targeted December 31, 2019, for the development of “a comprehensive three-year plan.” The College is on target for developing that plan to be delivered to the Board in December with planned dissemination in early 2020. Fund Raising Status Upon the recent resignation of Bill Hogan, the College is in the process of developing a job description for the position. Bill has laid a wonderful foundation for us to be able to continue to move forward. Regarding donations received, $2.3 million has been raised and pledged. The immediate goal is to continue to raise operational funds to continue returning the campus to academic programming. Immediate financial needs are for operational costs which are estimated to be several million dollars for the next three years. Campus Use Status The goal is to begin offering classes in the “Core” building, which is ready for business and grow from there. Apartments are available. New Partnership Saint Joseph’s College is pleased to announce a partnership with Indiana Agriculture and Technology School (IATS) for the 2019-2020 school year. IATS is a blended learning environment serving Indiana students grades 7 – 12 with an emphasis on agriculture and technology. This significant partnership will allow secondary students the opportunity to be regular visitors to the SJC campus and will serve as the northern Indiana site for IATS. The College is excited to work together and serve Indiana students at the Saint Joseph’s College campus.
