Gil Hodges – SJC Alumnus – Inducted into Baseball Hall of Fame

On Sunday, July 24th, 2022, alumnus Gil Hodges will be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame at Cooperstown, New York. After graduation in 1943 from Saint Joseph’s College, Hodges was signed by the Brooklyn Dodgers.

As a player, Hodges finished with 370 homers, 1,274 RBI and a .273 batting average. He retired with the third-most home runs of any right-handed hitter, trailing only Jimmie Foxx and Willie Mays. He finished in the top 20 of the NL Most Valuable Player voting eight times and won three Gold Glove Awards at first base – despite the fact that the award was not created until 1957.

As a manager, Hodges was 660-753 in nine seasons, including 100 regular season wins and the World Series title with the 1969 Mets. – https://baseballhall.org/hall-of-famers/hodges-gil

Save the Date! Homecoming 2022 – September 17th

Mark your calendars now and plan to attend Homecoming on Saturday, September 17th on campus at Saint Joseph’s College. A golf outing is being planned for Friday with Homecoming festivities on Saturday. More details coming next month!

Campus Happenings During May

The 8th cohort of Certified Clinical Medical Assistants wrapped up their class in May and completed their certification exam with 100% success!

On May 12th the Indiana Rural Water and Waste gathered on campus for continuing education. With a very large turnout, we were grateful they were able to use facilities at Saint Joe for their educational needs.

On May 18th SJC staff participated in the DeMotte Chamber of Commerce’s “Adulting Day” at the Kankakee Valley Middle School, located just twenty miles North of campus. “Adulting Day” was a fun way for local businesses to help middle school students learn certain life skills necessary for when they are adults.

On May 24th, SJC hosted a booth during WorkOne/Jasper Economic Development's Job Fair at the Jasper County Fairgrounds. This was a great networking event with local companies. With a lot of interest at our booth, we were able to share our educational opportunities with the local community members.
