Alumni Information Meetings

In our continuing effort to keep alumni like you informed of SJC news, we want to invite you to an information meeting. Over the next several months, we will be hosting Zoom meetings to educate alumni on the progress we are making at the College and to answer questions you may have about current and future plans.

Beginning in April, we will host one Zoom meeting each month, which will be limited to 25 guests in order to keep it manageable. Our first meeting will be April 19, at 12:00 pm central time. During the meeting, Saint Joseph’s College staff will give updates on the progress at the College and answer questions as time allows. Meetings will be about an hour in length and will require an RSVP. We ask that all questions be submitted ahead of time, so staff may prepare.

If you would like to part of the April 19th meeting, please email Beth Graf at bgraf@saintjoe.edu. Future meetings will be announced soon, so if you are not able to attend the April meeting, we hope you will join us in future meetings.

Rensselaer High School Graduate One of Newest Saint Joe Alumni

Recent Rensselaer high school graduate, Lillian Davisson, daughter of Mark Davisson Class of 1993, recently became an SJC alum after receiving her Certified Phlebotomy certification. Lilly attends Indiana University as a junior studying Human Biology with a minor in Spanish. Her goal is to attend Physician Assistant school after graduation.

In order to attend Physician Assistant school, Lilly needs clinical experience. She was looking for clinical experience she could complete during the school year. She found the certified phlebotomy course at Saint Joe and received a scholarship, which made her attendance possible. As well as Phlebotomy, Saint Joseph’s College offers certifications in Medical Assisting, Electrocardiogram, Nursing Assisting, Billing and Coding, and CPR. When asked about the program, Lilly says, “I like how hands-on the program was, and that the instructors were encouraging and engaging with helping the students learn to the best of their abilities.”

Lilly currently works at IU Health Hospital in Bloomington, Indiana as a phlebotomist. She works from 3 am to 7:30 am drawing blood on the inpatient floors of the units in the hospital. Receiving her certification from SJC allowed her to not only get this job, but achieve the clinical experience she needs to further her schooling. She has quickly learned how valuable certified phlebotomists are in the hospital setting.

Lilly shares, “I believe that these certifications are giving many people a nice introduction to the medical field, and allowing them to dip their toes in without fully committing to a four-year, intensive undergraduate degree. On top of that, it helps students like me who need patient-care interaction an opportunity to do so! My chances of getting into PA school would not be as good if Saint Joe was not offering their phlebotomy program!”

We are proud to have new alumni like Lilly Davisson and many others graduating from our program. As soon as they receive their certification in their respective programs, many jobs await them. Saint Joseph’s is grateful we can provide this service to our local community including Rensselaer graduates like Lilly. With our 100% passing rate, we are confident our new alumni are prepared for their new career.

Brother Tim Hemm, C.PP.S. 1947 - 2022

In February, Saint Joseph’s College lost a member of our family, Brother Tim Hemm, C.PP.S. after a lengthy illness. Brother Tim performed many functions at the college. At first, he oversaw the college’s motor pool and volunteered at St. Augustine Parish in Rensselaer. Later, he was the director of campus ministry at the college, organizing liturgies, Kairos retreats and innumerable other events to encourage students in their spiritual growth and help them find a home on campus. He also served many years as the Missionaries’ local director at the college.

Called “BT” by SJC students, Brother Tim was a constant presence on campus, remaining even after the college’s operations were suspended in 2017 to help in whatever way he could with the maintenance of the place that he loved so much. That love extended to the woods and fields surrounding the college; Brother Tim was known as an excellent hunter and fisherman.

Brother Tim left his mark on Saint Joseph’s College and the many student’s lives he touched. He will be greatly missed, but know he will live on in our great memories.
