Term 071   ---   Fr. Tim McFarland, C.PP.S., Ph.D.

OBJECTIVES:
To examine the biblical, historical and theological foundations of the Church of Christ in the world. One of the ways we will accomplish this is by examining the models of the Church. Special attention will be paid to the mission, and ministry of the Church; also the prospects for dialogue with other churches and religions. We will examine the role of the Spirit in the formation and development of the Church. We will also discuss the relationship between the universal Church, the local church and parish churches. The goal is for the student to better understanding of the nature of and what it means to be Church both now and in the future.

1. A 4-5 page paper evaluating the models of the Church (50 points)
2. A three page article summary and critique (25 points).
3. A short reflection paper 6-8 pages, on your vision of the "Future Church" (75 points).
4. A 6-8 page "interview" paper. I would like you to "interview" a priest, minister or pastor of another religious denomination and present your findings in the form of a short reflection paper and presentation  (100 points).

I also expect your attendance at class meeting and to participate in our discussion on the readings. Since the class meets only once a week more than one unexcused absence will result in a 1/2 final letter grade deduction.
