Special Topics Course
in Religion (092)
Sex and the Soul
"Sex and religion-two of the
most powerful, passionate and poetic aspects of human existence."
(Sex and Religion, 1) will be the focus of this course. We will begin by
reading Sex and the Soul by Donna Freitas. In this book she has
interviewed college students at public, private, Catholic and
evangelical colleges/universities exploring their spiritual and sexual
lives. Then we will explore the values and attitudes regarding sexuality
in some of the major religious traditions in the book Sex and the Soul.
We will explore the ethical implications of the religious traditions
with regard to sexuality. The goal is to explore this relationship
between sexuality, religion and spirituality and help students to
articulate the role of religion and spirituality in regard to sexuality
in the contemporary world.
