Course Description: A portal for new students in business administration, this course introduces
communication, technology, case analysis, and presentation skills required for, and
further developed in, later courses.  It helps establish an initial social and ethical framework
for business studies, with a direct link to relevant topics and readings in Core I.

Course Objectives:
1. Demonstrate a solid working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word,
and PowerPoint application programs.

2. Prepare professional business correspondence, including letters, memos,
and email using Microsoft Word.

3. Demonstrate an ability to write effectively.

4. Explain how to deliver presentations to an audience.

5. Demonstrate an ability to speak effectively to an audience.

6. Explain how to create slide presentations using Microsoft PowerPoint.

7. Construct spreadsheets using Microsoft Excel.

8. Research topics related to business using library, online, print, and other resources.

9. Address ethical issues related to business and demonstrate an understanding of acting
in an ethically and morally responsible manner.

10. Explain the process of case analysis.

11. Explain the benefits of teamwork and how to work with a team.

In-class assignments:
    * These will be projects turned in at the end of class whether done individually or within a group.

Out-of-class assignments:
    * Must be typed

    * All assignments with 3 or more spelling errors will be given an "F"

    * No hand written work will be accepted 

    * No late work will be accepted

    * All assignments are due at the beginning of the class period on the date they are due

    * All assignments must include your name, course name, meeting time, professor's name,
    and title of work and date

**Attendance Policy - Students are expected to be punctual and attend all classes regularly.
Remember your grade is a reflection of your attendance.

** Reading & Research Assignments - All reading and research assignments are to be read
prior to class meetings.

** Class Discussion - Each student is expected to actively participate in class discussions and
activities. In the classroom we can all learn from each other and the experiences we have had.
Come prepared and participate.

** STUDENTS ARE NOT PERMITTED TO CHEW, SMOKE, OR EAT IN THE CLASSROOM

** No cell phones, beepers, or other objects that may distract the class allowed!
