Education - The academic field that is concerned with the study of teaching and learning and its practice.

Do you have a favorite teacher? Do you dream of being someone else's?

Why Education?

Fact 1: You learn something new every day.

Fact 2: With a degree in Education, you can teach something new to someone every day.

Fact 3: With a degree in Education, you can receive licensure to teach at various grade levels.

Why Education at SJC?

Variety: At SJC, Education programs lead to licensure in preschool, kindergarten, elementary, middle, and high school settings. If you choose to teach at the secondary level, you can concentrate in 22 of SJC's 41 other majors.(Academic Catalog)

Dedication to Excellence: The Education Department at SJC requires that its students (including first year students) participate in field placements. This professional field experience is structured and intensive and takes place weekly in public and private school settings, allowing students to observe classroom practices and assist teachers in class projects. The Education Department at SJC has an exceptionally high employment rate and is historically the most popular major on campus.

Hands-on Experience: All Education majors are required to student teach. Freshmen spend one day a week working in classrooms in the first semester in cooperation with the local school system, which includes 27 schools in a five-county area. Many Education majors also participate in Head Start, the Jasper County Youth Center, and SJC Academy programs for area youth. (Success Stories)

Faculty and Class Size: Our Education Department consists of faculty who each hold a master's or doctoral degree in addition to having extensive experience. Classes range in size between 15 and 20 students.
