9/13/04 - Political Science Major Completes Internship with the State's Government
Joseph Dovidio (Poli. Sci) just finished an internship with Board of Supervisors for Orange and Los Angeles Counties in his hometown state of California as a first step into his career in politics.  For more on his internship and expereinces, click here.

9/02/04 Pre-Law Mentoring Program Gets Great Start
Begun recently by Dr. Peter Watkins (Political Science) to help SJC students prepare for law school application and admission through their coursework and by preparing for the LSAT exams, it is anticipated that SJC already high number of graduates accepted into law programs will continue to grow.  For more on the pre-law mentorship program click here or contact Dr. Watkins at ext. 6350.


8/23/04 - Dept. Welcomes New Students
Summer is over and the new academic year begins today.  The four programs in the Department welcome a new crop of freshmen as both majors and minors.  Welcome all!

5/5/04 - Eight Accepted to Law School
Congratulations to
Adam Bartrom, Luke Hansen, Katie King, Eric Klepinger, Eric McKeown, Lawrence Poleski, Jennifer Zak and Katie Shenoo for being accepted into various law schools.  Nice job!

4/22/04 - Graduating History Majors earn place in Grad. School

Brandon McGann
and Eric Hall will head off to graduate school in the Fall to work on their Masters in American History.  Brandon will be going to Ball State University and Eric will be going to Purdue.  Each has received complete funding for their programs.   Shannon Cheek, a double major in Biology-History will be attending the Medical College at Ohio State this fall Congratulations to all of you - GREAT JOB!!

3/15/04 - Phi Alpha Theta - History Honors Society to Induct new Member

Carolyn Weber, an Education Major, has earned membership in the History Honors Society and will be inducted in a ceremony by her fellow members at the end of April.  During this ceremony, a plaque honoring and acknowledging those inducted earlier will be presented for display in the Core Building.

2/20/04 - Caleb Kopczyk, a Political Science major, is the focus of a "Success at Saint Joseph's College"  found on the College's homepage under the press releases.  In it, he speaks of the tremendous value he has found in both a Liberal Arts education, and in particular, in the education he has received here at SJC.

1/11/04 -
Larry Poleski, International Studies major and Pre-Law  (Class '03) just received a Dean's Fund Scholarship to Loyola University Law School.  The scholarship is for three years.


3/22/04 -
Spring Break Trips to Egypt and Rome Great
Spring Break (March 4-14) was filled with travel opportunties for SJC students.

Egypt:  Students went to the pyramids by camel, the National Museum in Cairo,  to Luxor and the temples at Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, rode to  Luxor on the Nile by traditional sailboat, as well as attended a dinner with a local family in their home in order to see how a little bit of the lives of ordinary Egyptians.  More to come, including photos.

Rome:  Economics Prof. Michael Oakes  organized a week long trip to Rome with a variety of optional day trips that took  students, faculty, staff, and family to many of the places that Saint Joe students study in Cores 3 & 4. 

2/28/04 -
Phi Alpha Theta Took Field Trip to Chicago
Members of the History Honors Society, PAT, family, friends, and other  SJC students  went on a fieldtrip to the Chicago Historical Society and the Art Institute on Feb. 28th.  Students participated in a seminar on WW II planes that crashed and sunk in Lake Michigan, and other events offered as part of a  conference on maritime history.   In addition to these sites and exploring the various collections and rotating exhibits at these two locations, the group had dinner at Berghoff's before heading home to Rensselaer.  Similar trips will be offered in the future.
