The Rensselaer Program of Church Music and Liturgy, the country's longest-serving program of its kind, provides opportunities for study in liturgy and church music with outstanding faculty in a summers-only format on the charming campus of Saint Joseph's College in northwest Indiana.

Grounded solidly in liturgical tradition, the program maintains a pastoral focus on liturgical celebration in local communities. Rather than teaching one canon of treasured musical works, our faculty train students to understand how music works in the treasured rites and devotions of the Church and its cultures. The program prepares students to promote quality liturgy in small rural communities as well as in large, urban and suburban churches. Liturgy is the "work of the people" and calls for full, conscious, and active participation in every kind of worshiping assembly-in every region and ethnic community.

The summers-only format of the Rensselaer Program is designed for those with full-time professional and/or family responsibilities. The format allows students to implement in their own ministerial settings what they learn as the program unfolds-and then to bring their experience to bear on further study. The program offers two accredited M.A. degrees granted by Saint Joseph's College. Both degrees integrate liturgy and music courses in a balanced sequence. In addition to the degree programs, we offer a variety of options for those seeking continuing education. These students may come for a few days-or stay for the entire summer session.

Because the Rensselaer Program convenes only during the summer, we are able to draw on the talents of outstanding scholars, liturgists, and musicians who teach and work at other locations during the year. The "Faculty" page lists those who will be teaching this summer.
