Hydrology trip 2001
Mammoth Cave region, Kentucky
February 24-25, 2001

It's 8 am...we've been in the van for the last 5 hours...

...but we feel energized after a nutritious breakfast at Jerry's!!

Campus  Ministry was kind enough to let us use their Suburban for this trip.  (Luckily, we had no trouble locating the back wheel.)

Entrance to Sand Cave, where famed caver Floyd Collins met his end.

Of course it's a giant papier-mache mosasaur.  What were you expecting?

"How far underground are we now?"  At this point, about 200 feet.

Canyon-type passage along Boone Avenue.

None the worse for spending about 5 hours underground in Mammoth Cave.

Overview of the Sinkhole Plain from the top of the Chester Escarpment, immediately south of Mammoth Cave National Park.

Yes, we really ate lunch at the Porky Pig Diner in Pig, Kentucky.

Scenic overlook at Turnhole Spring.
