Cup O' Joe Constitution

**Article 1**

The name of the organization shall be Cup O' Joe.

**Article 2**

Provide a place on campus for on-campus activities for SCJ students. It is a place for socialization that is totally free for the students, run on a donation only basis.

**Article 3**

Membership is open to all SJC students. Students need not be members to participate in activities at Cup O' Joe. Members can be anyone that runs the shop or those who organize the events. Members are also responsible for electing officers to over see the operation of Cup O' Joe. In order to be a member, they must meet the above qualifications.

**Article 4**

There will be four officers. All offices will help from the first day that classes resume in January to the following year. All offices also require a simple majority vote to elect a person to the office. The offices available are as follows: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

The President is responsible for appointing a sufficient number of members to committees to ensure success, and to serve as an ex-officio. The P should also preside over all meetings when possible. The P is also responsible for providing leadership and setting goals for the group. They must also confer regularly with the faculty advisor, and closely monitor efforts of membership, recruitment, and retention. They should encourage the future of the organization. Finally, the P should leave the organization stronger than when they first took office.

The Vice President is responsible for fulfilling the duties of the P is the P is absent. If the presidential office becomes vacant, the VP will organize a vote for a new P with simple majority to elect a new P. The VP should also serve as an ex-officio for all committees. The VP is also responsible for the timely organization of all events taking place at Cup O' Joe and the allotments of funds for said events.

The Secretary is responsible for documenting official business conducted in the organization. They should also keep track of minutes at all meetings, and handle such correspondence and records required. The Secretary should notify all members of upcoming meetings, votes and special events. Finally, the Secretary is responsible for keeping members up-to-date as to the working hours of the organization.

The Treasurer's main duty is to keep track of inventory and put in orders for more when stock runs low. This includes the transaction and recording of all financial affairs of the organization. Finally, the Treasurer is required to make financial reports at regular meetings or when requested to do so by the President.

As officers, the elected should work at least one night per week. Working for one night is defined as opening/closing the coffee shop, making coffee for guests, clean up at the end of the night, and daily upkeep of the coffee shop. Officers are also responsible for representing the coffee shop.

**Article 5**

A general meeting shall be held every month on the first Wednesday. Regular business will be handeled at these meetings and should be handled appropriately. Officers can call special meetings if they deem it necessary. At least three quarters of all members must be present and vote to make a vote valid. Simple majority of votes will decide the outcome.

**Article 6**

The Advisor of the organization can hold the position until they are no longer needed by the group, or can no longer offer their services to the group. The Advisor is asked by the group to fill the position stated and accepts or declines the invitation. The Advisor has many duties to the organization such as acting as the resource person for the organization, and introducing new program ideas with greater intellectual content. The Advisor should also point out new directions that could be taken, and insist on high standards for the group. They should be consulted by the officers on a regular basic, and act as a link between past and present groups and their ideas during transition period. Advisors also act as a link between the college and the organization so that they may interpret college policies and regulations. The Advisor should provide supervision, try to attend as many activities as possible, and make sure there are adequate records and minutes of the group's meetings and activities, at least by the Secretary and Treasurer.

**Article 7**

The rules contained in Robert's Rules of Order Revised shall govern this organization in all cases to which they are applicable unless they are inconsistent with the constitution and By-Laws and special rules of the organization.

**Article 8**

Amendments will be entered into a suggestion box that will be opened and read during the regular meetings. Amendments will be voted on if three quarters of all members are present, and requite a two-thirds margin to pass.
