Father Giovanni (John) Merlini, C.PP.S.

 

Father Giovanni (John) Merlini, C.PP.S.(1795 - 1873) was born in Spoleto Italy. He was a favorite comnpanion of Saint Gaspar del Bufalo, the founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood(C.PP.S.). Merlini was the third moderator general (world-wide superior) of C.PP.S. He played a an important role is establishing Sisters Adorers of the Precious Blood (ASC) with Maria De Mattias. Merlini's life not marked by any dramatic turning points or events, but was a life of virtue in whatever he did. What was remembered most about Merlini was the way he performed ordinary things extraordinarily well. Much of Merlin's correspondence is currently being translated from Italian into English. His virtuous life was recognized by the Roman Catholic Church as being worthy of note, having been declared "venerable," and his cause for sainthod is currently underway.
