How did you hear about SJC?
SJC went to a college fair at my high school. From the moment I talked to the admissions counselor, I knew SJC would be a great fit for me.
Did you receive financial aid?
I am an Honors Scholarship recipient. If it weren't for my academic scholarships and grants, I would not be able to attend SJC. The great financial aid the school offered me was one of the main deciding factors as to why I decided to come to SJC.
Why did you choose SJC?
I chose SJC because of their wonderful Christian values. I always knew I wanted to attend a Catholic college that embodied values and qualities that would allow me to grow as a person. I considered other small, Catholic institutions, but the Core Program was too much of a unique learning experience that I could not pass it up! Also, the community and family aspects of SJC were obvious to me from the moment I talked to current students and my academic advisor.
What are your plans for the future?
I will be attending law school in the fall of 2013. I am working toward a career path in Corporate Law.
The Core Program
The Core Program is a unique academic experience that not only allows students to begin their major from their first day of classes freshman year, but it also develops academic skills that are critical to our future professional aspirations. It has developed my writing, critical thinking, and public speaking skills to a level that I would not have achieved had I not had the close professor/student relationship the Core Program allows us to have.
The Core Program has definitely helped me in my major classes. As a Political Science major, I have a lot of reading and writing assignments. Because of Core, my writing and reading skills have improved tremendously. Professors take the time to help you in the areas where you need it the most. These are the skills I will take with me to law school and that I believe will help me succeed in my future endeavors. All of the hard work spent working on Core assignments pays off in the future, especially when you see improvement in your academic skills.
I interned at Dyer, Garofalo, Mann & Schultz Law Offices in Dayton, Ohio in the summer of 2012. My internship consisted of shadowing attorneys and law clerks, attending client meetings and court dates, as well as assisting in any way the attorneys needed me.
