Why Saint Joseph’s College?

SJC Is the Only College with the Core Program

What It Means for You

High Quality Academics. SJC has received a great deal of publicity about the high quality of our education. Other schools use the term “core,” but it’s not the same thing.  Instead of taking general education courses for 1-2 years before you start your major, the Core Program allows you to start your major right away at SJC. Our Core Program allows you to graduate college with four years of analytical thinking, writing, and speaking skills that will serve you well for the rest of your life, whatever you choose to do.

Get a Jump Start on Your Career. You can have your resume ready to go at graduation. How? At SJC, you start your major as soon as you walk in the door, so you will have four years of knowledge and experience in your field. You can even change your mind about your major and still graduate on time with lots of experience.

Get Real-life Experience. Because of the skills you develop by having the Core Program interact with your major for four years in addition to internships, job shadowing, and service learning, you get hands-on experience in preparation for your career or graduate school.

Adam Ruggles ’12, student at Saint Louis University School of Law

“The relationship with the professors is what I value most. The teachers care about the students. By the end of my years at SJC, professors were more like friends teaching me.”

Committed to Affordability

What It Means for You

Guaranteed Tuition for 4 Years.  Families will save thousands of dollars by paying the same tuition rate throughout the entire degree program.  We are committed to staying a “Top 10 Best Value” and "Best Midwest College" by combining this plan with generous scholarship opportunities and financial aid awards.

SAGE Scholars Tuition Rewards.  Savings and Growth for Education (SAGE) Tuition Rewards is a unique, private college savings program.  Tuition Rewards are discounts off tuition that represent the minimum scholarship that an eligible student will receive if attending SJC.  We accept Tuition Rewards as part of the normal institutional and merit scholarships. Please visit the SAGE website for more information about SAGE.

Private College 529 Plan.  This is a specialized account that allows families to prepay for tuition today and use it later at SJC. The sooner you prepay for tuition, the more you can potentially save. You can view more details about the Private College 529 Plan at the Tomorrow's Tuition at Today's Prices website.

We’re a Small College

What It Means for You

Mentoring. Small colleges offer you personal attention; SJC professors do more for you—they serve as mentors. Studies show that having a mentor leads to success in your field. Alumni often tell us how their professors not only played a major role in their success, but also became lifelong friends. If you are undecided about what to major in, we help you decide.

Leadership. You get more deeply involved at SJC, so you get more meaningful experiences that prepare you for career and life, and you have more opportunities to be a leader. If you want to start a club or activity that doesn’t exist, we encourage you to start one. At SJC, prepare yourself for what you want to do in life.

Family Atmosphere/Safe Location. You will be in a very safe location. We’re all like family at SJC. We watch out for each other and help one another. That’s one less thing your parents have to worry about.

Catholic, But We Welcome All Faiths

What It Means for You

No matter what you believe, Our Core Curriculum helps you better understand your inner values. Whether you want to do outreach to children or the elderly, participate in peer ministry, help the poor in the US or other countries, or express your faith, SJC helps you explore who you are and what you believe—so you can change the world.

Kathi Corwin '12, Main Street Manager (historic preservation) for City of Gladewater, Texas; formerly a graduate student in Historic Preservation at Ball State University

“SJC is faith-based, but that faith connection is not forced on you. There are a lot of opportunities to give back to the community.

Monica Lohmuller '12, Chemistry Teacher, Benton Central Jr.-Sr. High school, Oxford, Ind.

“I really appreciated being able to go to Mass on Sundays in the Chapel. My faith is important to me, and the community at SJC gave me the opportunity to practice it."
