Graduation Year:

History and Political Science

Why did you choose SJC?
I chose Saint Joseph's College because of the involved faculty and the one-on-one attention they provide. My professors welcome the questions and concerns of their students. I like knowing I can call or visit them and get an immediate response.

As a student, what were you involved in?
Mock Trial, Model United Nations, Seeking Mental Awareness and Staying Healthy (SMASH'ed), Columbian Players (SJC's acting troupe), Choir, the Columbian Players (theatre organization), The Observer (SJC's student-produced newspaper), and Alpha Lambda Delta freshman honor society. I worked on campus as a staff member in the Writing Clinic, a Resident Assistant and a Tutor for the Political Science and History Departments, and an intern in the Publications and Media Relations Office. My involvement with Mock Trial helped me strengthen my analytical skills, think well on my feet, and understand courtroom procedure. For the 2002 competition, I played a lawyer and spent many hours familiarizing myself with the witness I was in charge of questioning. I also had to foresee any problems the opposing lawyer would have with her testimony as well as predict the kinds of questions the Lawyer would have for her. My involvement with Model United Nations also helped me to analyze situations from viewpoints not consistent with my own beliefs.

What are you doing now?
I am working on my doctorate in Political Science at Purdue University in West Lafayette, where I have a Teaching Assistantship.

How is SJC helping you with your future goals?
SJC's Core Program helped me to develop solid writing and verbal skills, both of which are necessary for the world beyond graduation. My professors served as both instructors and inspirations to me, and the supportive environment I found made me realize that there is no such thing as "impossible."
