Why did you choose SJC?
In my family, Saint Joseph's College is a tradition;
I have an aunt, uncle, and sister who attended college here. The small class
sizes also meet my individual needs. They allow for more participation among
students and better communication with the professors. As a student, what were you involved in?
I was a member of the men's golf team and the Investment
Club, and I worked in the campus library. During the summer of 2002,
I interned with BASF's Agricultural Chemical Products Division in District
101 (Indiana and Ohio). I traveled throughout both states to help with sales
and gathered over two hundred pages of information for a business analysis
project about the district and its territories. My project was presented
to the District Manager and eventually to the Regional Manager in the form
of an evaluation report. I learned a great deal about how sales teams are
operated, and I developed team-working, communication, and time management
skills. What are you doing now?
I am a Turf and Ornamental Business Sales representative for Dow Chemical in Memphis, Tennessee. My sales territory includes Tennessee, Arkansas, Mississippi, Louisiana, and northern Alabama, and I work closely with key distributors to provide economical pesticide solutions to our clients, which inlcude golf courses, lawn care outfits, state parks, athletic stadiums, and nurseries. My responsibilities include developing, communicating, and executing business and account plans; driving demand at key strategic dealers and distributors; increasing Dow Chemical's sales and market share; and developing and nurturing relationships with all members of the market.
How did SJC prepare you for the "real world"?
The Business Administration faculty cares about
the success of each individual student, and I felt comfortable talking to
my professors about problems in class or asking them for advice about my
future. They are more than willing to look over my resume, read cover letters,
and write letters of recommendation for internships and jobs. SJC also has
a good career center.
