Why did you choose SJC?
I chose SJC because I had heard several positive
comments about the school and professors from past graduates. I was also
amazed by the size of the College. It's big, but it's also small enough
to receive one-on-one attention from a professor. I also liked the Core
Program because it combines a number of different subjects in a fun way.
As a student, what were you involved in?
he Nursing Program requires its students to participate in a certain number of community service hours per semester, and I was involved in a variety of activities. I spent a great deal of time at Jasper County Hospital, and I also worked at hospitals and health facilities near Lafayette and in Indianapolis. I visited Girl Scout troops and talked to the girls about proper nutrition. I also had an elderly client whom I visited monthly, helping her maintain a diet and exercise program to fit her lifestyle and answering any questions she may have. It was a wonderful and rewarding experience. I also visited with students who are considering entering the nursing profession. This helped me in my own career because communication plays a big role in nursing. I enhanced my ability to speak in front of others, and I feel comfortable answering people's questions. I was also both the Secretary and Treasurer for my class.What are you doing now?
I am a Registered Nurse (RN) at Jasper County Hospital in Rensselaer.
How did SJC help you achieve your goals?
SJC provided the classes and flexible scheduling I needed to graduate and become an RN. The professors were always available, and there were tutoring programs for extra help. Also, the Nursing faculty on campus is wonderful. Several times, I felt overwhelmed with my classes, and I was always able to turn to one of my instructors for help.
