Why did you choose SJC?
I chose Saint Joseph's College because I liked the
small, close-to-home, Catholic college atmosphere, and I liked the Core
Program. Choosing a college was very difficult, but I realized this was
where I wanted to be, and I have not regretted my decision. As a student, what were you involved in?
I worked in the Writing Clinic, was a Presidential Scholar, Freshman Leader,
Academic Tutor, and an Editor for The Observer (student newspaper). I was also
involved in the Saint Joseph's Academy (education organization for local youth),
Education Club, Habitat for Humanity, Gallagher Charitable Society, Campus
Ministry, and Right to Life. As President of Right to Life, I devoted much of my
time to getting the group more involved. Our activities included collecting
signatures to protest the partial-birth abortion law and holding a baby shower
in order to collect maternity clothes and baby items for Birthright in
Rensselaer (a pro-life organization that offers alternatives to abortion for
women with unplanned pregnancies). Through my work with The Observer, I
collected creative work from the students and search for "fun" information to
publish. I served on SJC's judicial panel, which involved both students and
staff members working together to decide courses of action in student
disciplinary cases. I was also Co-Valedictorian for my class.
What are you doing now?
I'm teaching English and Journalism at Avon High School in Avon, Indiana.
How did SJC prepare you for the "real world"?
SJC provided me with a well-rounded education
and excellent professors, especially those in the English Department. It
also provided me with extracurricular opportunities so that I could gain
experience in my areas of interest.
