Why did you choose SJC?
I chose SJC for several reasons. First, I liked a small school atmosphere.
Second, SJC being a Catholic school helped in my decision, as I graduated
from Scecina Memorial High School in Indianapolis, which was also a Catholic
school. I played football, baseball, and wrestled, and so I wanted the
opportunity to be involved in more than one sport, which was a possibility
at SJC.
As a student, what were you involved
in?
Outside of my involvement in football, baseball, and wrestling, I spent my
time studying. My junior and senior years I was married and living in town,
and my wife was a big reason I made it through college. We also had a son
while I was at school, and I worked at the Sears store in town part-time as well.
What are you doing now?
After graduation, I worked in the finance business for a time until I signed
with the Chicago Bears. I got cut by the Bears and decided to go back to school.
After graduating from Butler University with my M.A. in Business Education, I
obtained my teaching license and taught for three years at Indianapolis Ritter
High School. I also taught three years at Carmel High School, and currently
am in my 26th year at Center Grove High School teaching business. I coached
football for 27 years, and this will be my 32nd year coaching baseball.
My wife and I had four children, three boys and one girl, and two of the boys
are also SJC grads - Daniel '97 and Thomas '99.
I also currently have three grandchildren.
How did SJC prepare you for the "real
world"?
Beyond what I learned through my classroom studies, SJC taught me time
management, social skills, and teamwork, all of which have been helpful
in my choices in careers.
