Why did you choose SJC?
As a prospective student, my brother was a candidate
for a basketball scholarship, which is how I came to know about Saint Joseph's
College. On my campus visit, I found I liked the size of the College, the
amount of interaction between the students and faculty, and the values that
SJC instilled through its curriculum. As a student, what were you involved in?
I truly enjoyed my studies and dedicated much of
my time to "hitting the books." However, I did serve as President of the
Science Club and participated in intramural football and basketball. What are you doing now?
I'm the Founder, President, and Chief Executive
Officer for the American Institute of Toxicology, Inc. (AIT Laboratories)
in Indianapolis, Indiana. Since 1990, AIT has been conducting research and
providing laboratory services to the health care, forensic science, and
pharmaceutical industries for companies and institutions throughout the
United States. Before I started AIT, I served as Professor and Director
of Toxicology at Indiana University School of Medicine. My previous positions
have included Program Director, faculty member, and researcher for such
universities as Vanderbilt University Medical Center in Tennessee, Illinois
Institute of Technology, and University of Illinois College of Medicine.
I also served as a Visiting Professor of Toxicology for a college in China,
and I continue to guest lecture for colleges and universities in North America.
In addition to my degree from SJC, I hold a doctorate in Toxicology from the Indiana University School of Medicine, and I have been the recipient of several fellowships and grants from the National Institute of Health and the World Health Organization. How did SJC prepare you for the "real world"?
Saint Joseph's College not only sparked my love
for the sciences, it encouraged my development as a person. Throughout my
career, I have never worried about the amount of money I would make or the
amount of prestige a position might bring me; instead, I sought after opportunities
that would allow me to develop professionally and capitalize on my energy
in order to make valuable contributions to society. SJC contributed to that
aspect of my growth, and the College continues to develop those traits in
its students - I know, because in the last several years I've hired three
interns from SJC, and they all share the same passion for learning, the
same energy to make good things happen, and I couldn't have been more pleased
with their work. Saint Joseph's College is truly a breeding ground for successful
men and women.
