Why did you choose SJC?
I first became interested in Saint Joseph's College
while being recruited for the women's soccer team. Though soccer first attracted
me to SJC, it was the family-like atmosphere and Core Program that sealed
my decision. As a student, what were you involved in?
I was a four-year member of the women's soccer team, a tutor, and and an
employee in the SJC Writing Clinic. During my junior year, I was Junior Class
President and Editor of Measure (SJC's literary magazine). I was most proud of
my Campus Ministry involvement on campus, and I have attended the Kairos retreat
as a Retreatant, Leader, and Rector. Kairos changed my faith and inspired me to
become a more active member of my faith community. The lessons I learned while
attending those retreats are the foundation that holds my faith together. My
involvement with the soccer team taught me a great deal about teamwork, built my
confidence, helped me to develop time management skills, and allowed me to build
life-long friendships with my teammates. In my last year, I was also named SJC's
Senior of the Year.
What are you doing now?
I teach ninth grade English - including the Honors courses and Remedial Summer School - and Creative Writing at Crown Point High School in Crown Point, Indiana. I am also an assistant coach for women's soccer.
How did SJC prepare you for the "real world"?
SJC helped to form and solidify my character. The Core Program helped me
immensely by challenging my beliefs and forcing me to examine my moral
conscience on a daily basis. The people at SJC - professors, students, and staff
- provided me with a caring support group and served as examples of people who
are living their lives with love and respect for others.
