Why did you choose SJC?
I chose Saint Joseph's College because it was extremely
easy to make lots of friends and meet many new people with different personalities
there. As a student, what were you involved in?
I was on the junior varsity volleyball team and
a member of the Computer Club and Volunteer Corps. The Volunteer Corps took
up most of my time. We assisted people with tasks that they couldn't physically
do themselves, like carrying out carpets, helping people move, or raking
leaves. One Halloween, we participated in a "Trick or Treat for the Hungry,"
and during the Christmas season, we sang carols at the local nursing home.
I also worked at SJC the summer before my senior year in the Computer Center, erasing data and installing new software on hard drives, uninstalling bad drives, and assisting employees and students with technical problems on their machines. My job really put my classroom education to work. What are you doing now?
I am a Desktop Computing Support Specialist for
Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana, where I'm in charge of desktop
support for faculty and staff. Working in the Computer Center helped me
land this job because of its emphasis on desktop support. How did SJC prepare you for the "real world"?
The Career Center helped me prepare my resume, and
I have improved my writing skills tremendously. Also, Purdue University
is well known for its diversity, and because the Core Program at Saint Joseph's
College helped me to become knowledgeable in a number of different areas,
I have an easier time communicating at work when I'm helping people solve
their technical problems.
