Why did you choose SJC?
I enjoyed the smaller school setting, and I appreciated
the ability to receive hands-on experience as a freshman. I also received
a scholarship from SJC to play baseball. As a student, what were you involved in?
In addition to baseball, I hosted a few different
radio shows on the College's campus radio station, WPUM. During my last
two years at SJC, I hosted a basketball show on WPUM where I announced games
and conducted interviews with different coaches. I was also involved with
intramural sports, a Resident Assistant for two years, and served Stuff
(the College's student-produced newspaper, now known as The Observer)
as Sports Editor. What are you doing now?
I'm a communications teacher at Merrillville High
School in Merrillville, Indiana. I teach courses in television production,
and I also advise the students that run the high school's TV station, Pirate
News Network. We produce a daily morning news segment for the school, and
weekly show called "The Friday Show," which airs every Friday on campus
and also on local cable access stations in the Lake County area. When I
was in high school, we didn't have television classes like the ones I teach.
It's very hands-on, and very exciting. It's been a lot of fun. How did SJC prepare you for the "real world"?
My professors pushed me to take responsibility for
my work, instructing me to take the job I was given and get it done in the
best way possible. The Core Program allowed me to strengthen my writing
and communication skills. I had a paper to write almost every week, and
I was constantly interacting with other people through in-class discussions.
My experience at Saint Joseph's College was a rewarding one.
