What experience/s have you appreciated most in the SJC Music Department/musical involvement on campus?
There are many experiences I have come to appreciate in the Music Department here at SJC, it is very hard to choose which I appreciate the most. From performing solo tuba literature as early as my freshman year for Core lectures, to playing world drums for a benefit concert, to being able to prepare a solo recital with some of the most inspiring teachers I have had the pleasure of studying under, these are all experiences very dear to my heart.
How does Core integrate with your Music major - i.e., do you have stories/experiences of interest?
My Core classes and my Music courses have both integrated with each other throughout my entire time here at SJC. From talking about the ancient world in core three and four and hearing about the music of those times the next day in Music History, to talking in a conducting class about ways to teach an ensemble and describing Christ as a teacher three hours later in Core 9, the courses in both Core and Music have constantly gone hand-in-hand my four years as a Puma.
How prepared do you feel for employment following graduation?
I feel that I am ready for almost any job thrown my way after my time here at SJC. The variety of classes I have taken (whether Music classes, business classes for my minor, Core, or random electives that sounded interesting) and the knowledge gained in each have prepared me to be a thinker. I also feel well prepared for employment based on campus jobs through the Music Department and the department of Institutional Advancement and Marketing. Both departments, and my courses have improved my entire person.
What advice would you give to a prospective student looking to major in Music at SJC?
Experiences are building blocks for your future. SJC is a place full of experiences everyday, those of which that are not available at most colleges. I advise prospective students looking to major in Music here at SJC to really take a look at the advantages of all the opportunities and experiences SJC has to offer in Music.
