Probation Letter (Example)
Dear SJC Student:
I have been notified by the Vice President of Academic Affairs that you were placed on academic probation at the end of last semester. The staff of Educational Support Services is here to assist you with resources that will ensure success in the coming semester. To begin:
- Complete the Academic Success Exercises found on our webpage http://www.saintjoe.edu/sss/academic/puma_pulse/
- Reflect on your strengths; What kinds of subjects do you like best?; What kinds of assignments do you do well?; What can you do for hours on end?
- Reflect on what went wrong: too heavy or too light a class load?; Did you take the wrong courses?; Should you change your study habits?; Improve your time management skills?; etc. Only you fully know the real reasons.
- Make an appointment with me for no later than the end of the second week of this semester, and bring with you the completed exercises, a copy of your current class schedule and extracurricular activities, and a planner (e.g., Puma Guide).
At this meeting we will critically review your previous semester and formulate a plan to achieve your goals for this semester. We are here to help, but we can only do this with your full cooperation, hard work, and dedication.
I look forward to meeting you soon.
Regards,
Prof. Angela Elrod-Sadler
Director of Educational Support Services
Saint Joseph's College
