In March, the Saint Joseph's College Jazz Band performed for delighted attendees of a student dance that was held on campus. Although the Jazz Band had minimal time to prepare, Associate Professor of Music and Director of the Jazz Band Dr. Paul Geraci saw it as an excellent learning experience.
"Short-term rehearsing is an important skill for the students to learn," said Dr. Geraci. "It's essential to be able to enter a situation with the ability to adapt to and cover a wider variety of music."
The Jazz Band will incorporate its experience at the dance in the annual Jazz Band Concert, which will be held Sunday, April 14 at 4:00 pm CDT in the Evans Arts and Science Building Theatre on the SJC campus. Admission is free and all are welcome to attend.
The concert will feature a selection of tunes the Jazz Band performed at the dance, which included such well known pieces as "Zoot Suit Riot" and "Jump, Jive an' Wail," as well as an arrangement of Eric Satie's "Gymnopédies."
