The Saint Joseph’s College Choirs will perform their annual Service of Lessons and Carols on Sunday, December 8 at 4:00 pm CST in the Saint Joseph's Chapel. A longstanding tradition and the formal start of the Christmas season in the area, the service features readings and music celebrating the birth of Christ through Scripture and traditional choral selections.
“In a time when we all are so busy getting everything done, especially with the holidays, having an hour to slow down, meditate on the ‘reason for the season,’ and join in special Christmas music is welcomed by many,” said SJC Director of Choirs and Assistant Professor of Music Kelly Ford. Ford, who recently led the SJC Choirs on their “Musical Tour of Italy,” is excited to end the Choirs’ busiest season with a peaceful event.
Leading the service is Fr. Tim McFarland, C.PP.S ’78, with accompaniment provided by the SJC Orchestra. In addition to Fr. McFarland, several members of the SJC and Rensselaer communities will recite nine passages that celebrate the birth of Christ.
“Participation in the readings by members of the SJC and Rensselaer communities is always a visible sign of their support for the Department of Music here at SJC,” said Ford.
The Service of Lessons and Carols is open to the public and free of charge.
