Afford SJC: Student Testimonials

Below are the real stories of two students at Saint Joseph’s who were able to make their college dreams a reality.

Sarah Fingerhut (North Judson, Indiana)
When faced with the college selection process, many factors must be taken into consideration before committing to an institution. The main concern of Sarah Fingerhut '08 and her family was the cost of tuition. Sarah and her family, however, found solace at Saint Joseph's College. "SJC was the least expensive school I looked at because they gave me more scholarship and grant money than any other school to which I applied," Sarah said. As a recipient of the SJC Honors and Choir Performance Scholarships, partnered with the Indiana Freedom of Choice Grant and Higher Education Grant, Sarah has received the monetary aid she's needed to help her along the way to a college education.

Since her freshman year, Sarah has been employed in the Office of Student Financial Services through SJC's work-study program, allowing a part of her wages to go toward her tuition costs. Finding more than simply a job in Student Financial Services, Sarah has discovered friendship, support, and work she truly enjoys. "The people in Student Financial Services helped me out so much with my financial aid and continue to make sure that I get the most out of scholarships and grants so that I can have the best educational experience that SJC offers," Sarah continued. "They were and still are helpful to me in many different ways. I am very thankful for them and everything they have done for me."

Corey Hecht (Griffith, Indiana)
To Corey Hecht '07, the cost of tuition was the most important factor in his college search. Because he planned to pay for his schooling independently, loans, scholarships, and grants were of utmost importance. At Saint Joseph's College, he found exactly what he was looking for. "I had already received the Indiana Freedom of Choice and Higher Education Grants, but I also needed scholarship money from whatever institution I chose," he said. "SJC gave me an Academic Dean's Scholarship and a Choral Performance Scholarship, which made it possible for me to become a Puma."

Corey's dreams of SJC couldn't have come to fruition without the constant help and guidance from the Student Financial Services staff, whether it was simply being there to answer his questions or helping him find additional loan funding. "Every time I have questions about my loan and tuition statements, or when I worry about how I will pay it all back in the end, Student Financial Services is always there to provide an answer," he said. "When it comes down to it, SJC is where I want to be, and they've helped me make it a reality. Regardless of the price, I know that the value of the education I'm receiving is worth it."

These students and their families worked with our Office of Student Financial Services to make SJC an affordable choice. Contact us to find out how you can, too.
