Saint Joseph's College Columbian Players to Present "The Glass Menagerie"
The Columbian Players of Saint Joseph's College will present Tennessee Williams' classic play "The Glass Menagerie." The play will be held on January 31 and February 1 and 2 at 7:30 pm CST in the Evans Arts and Science Building Theatre on the SJC campus. Admission is $5.00 for the public and free for SJC students, faculty, staff, and children under 10.
"The Glass Menagerie" is Tennessee Williams' first play and is considered a masterpiece of American drama. It tells the story of the Wingfield family. Mother Amanda Wingfield is a faded southern belle who has raised two children on her own following the abandonment of her husband. Her daughter, Laura, suffers from a limp caused by a childhood illness, leaving her an insecure and withdrawn individual. Laura's brother, Tom, is "a poet with a job in a warehouse," and he serves as the narrator of the play.
"It is always a challenge to do a classic like 'The Glass Menagerie,' especially with a six week rehearsal period," said Assistant Professor of Theatre Arts John Rahe. "This cast of talented actors has accepted the challenge, and this promises to be an excellent production. We invite you to experience this great play with us."
The cast includes: senior Theatre Arts and English-Creative Writing major Olivia Markwalder of Rensselaer, Ind. as Amanda; junior English major Tanner Brunson of Lafayette, Ind. as Jim; senior Biology major Ken Scofield of Roselawn, Ind. as Tom; and junior Mass Communication major Alycia Tassone of DeMotte, Ind. as Laura. Junior Theatre Arts major Zach Conrad of Carmel, Ind., designed the dreamlike set and lighting.
