Lake Village's Caitlin Wedding Named Senior of the Year
On Friday, April 20, Elementary Education major Caitlin Wedding of Lake Village, Ind. was named Senior of the Year at the annual President's Senior Dinner.
Wedding is the senior class vice president and has been a member of the SJC Art Club and intramural sports. She was the secretary of the Volleyball Club in 2009, a resident assistant for two years, an Admissions student ambassador and tour guide, and a student employee in the Office of Institutional Advancement and Marketing. Wedding is excited for the future, for which she believes her time at SJC has prepared her in countless ways.
"I have found out so much about myself and others while at SJC. I have a positive outlook on my future and have the confidence to pursue the goals I intend to achieve. I will always encourage prospective college students to attend SJC."
As an alumna of SJC, Wedding hopes to share the confidence and skills she obtained at SJC with her own students.
"My professors have been tremendous examples of how to conduct myself as a person and as a future educator."
The other nominees for the award included: Mathematics and Psychology major Kenneth Rossi of Kapolei, Hawaii; Chemistry major Monica Lohmuller of Fort Wayne, Ind.; Business Administration major Jade Anthrop of West Lafayette, Ind.; and English major Hannah Sparks of DeMotte, Ind.
Selection for the Senior of the Year candidates began in January, when members of the senior class voted for three of their classmates. Nominees were required to have a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 (minimum) on a 4.0 scale and completed and passed at least 105 college credit hours. After the top five vote recipients were named, a selection committee consisting of members of the SJC Alumni Association Board of Directors interviewed each candidate and selected a winner.
Saint Joseph's College, named a "character-building college" by the Templeton Foundation and a "best Midwestern college" by the Princeton Review, is a four-year, Catholic college offering 27 majors, 4 group majors, 34 minors, and 9 pre-professional programs, complemented by the nationally acclaimed Core Program. Founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, SJC is located in Rensselaer, Indiana, approximately 90 minutes from both Chicago and Indianapolis, on a park-like campus of 180 acres and has an enrollment of 1,100 students.
