Saint Joseph's College Spreads Holiday Cheer with Christmas Shows
With Christmas drawing near, Saint Joseph's College will celebrate the holiday with its annual Lessons and Carols service and band Christmas Concert. The Lessons and Carols service will be held Sunday, December 4 at 4:00 pm CST in the Saint Joseph's Chapel. The Christmas Concert, performed by the SJC Band, will be held at 2:00 pm CST on Sunday, December 11 in the Halleck Student Center Ballroom. Both shows are free and all are welcome to attend.
The Lessons and Carols service will feature traditional Christmas carols as well as some lesser known pieces. The traditional pieces will include "Silent Night" and "Hark, the Herald Angels Sing." Those in attendance will be invited to sing along to some of their favorite holiday songs.
"This is such a busy time of year, and too often we forget the reason for the season," said SJC Director of Choral Music Kelly Ford. "SJC's Lessons and Carols service is a wonderful opportunity to slow down and put shopping, cards, decorating, and the end-of-semester busy work on a back burner if only for an hour as we celebrate Christmas in word and song."
The band Christmas Concert will feature many traditional works, including "Sleigh Ride" and "The Most Wonderful Time of the Year." The band will also perform music from the film "The Nightmare Before Christmas." Some non-traditional music will be featured as well, including "Celtic Carol" and "Russian Christmas Music." The concert will end with an audience sing-along followed by a reception.
Senior Music majors Krishanna Baker of Delphi, Ind. and Michael Jamieson of Star City, Ind. will each conduct a piece with the Symphonic Band as part of their senior project, and the Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band will also perform in the show.
"This is a busy time of year, but hopefully folks will join us for some holiday cheer," said SJC Band Director Robb Thiel.
