Rensselaer, Ind. - Saint Joseph's College has been named a best college in the Midwest and a top 10 value college in the Midwest in the 2012 edition of "Best Colleges" by U.S. News Media Group. The exclusive rankings, which include more than 1,400 schools nationwide, are available at www.usnews.com/colleges and will also be published in the September issue of U.S. News & World Report, on newsstands starting September 20.
Over the past two decades, the U.S. News college rankings, which group schools based on categories created by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching, have grown to be the most comprehensive research tool for students and parents considering higher education opportunities.
"To be named one of the best colleges in the Midwest and the ninth best value colleges in the Midwest by U.S. News Media Group is an achievement of which the entire Saint Joseph's College community should be proud," said SJC President Dr. F. Dennis Riegelnegg. "The excellence and affordability of our education is the result of a tremendous work ethic possessed by our students, faculty, and staff, and it's wonderful to see that dedication and discipline recognized."
The 2012 "Best Colleges" feature rankings in various categories, such as Best National Universities and Best National Liberal Arts Colleges, while also including rankings of A+ Schools for B Students, Great Schools at Great Prices, and Up-and-Coming Schools.
The 2012 "Best Colleges" package provides the most thorough examination of how more than 1,400 accredited four-year schools compare on a set of up to 16 widely accepted indicators of excellence. Among the many factors weighed in determining the rankings, the key measures of quality are: peer assessment, graduation and retention rates, faculty resources, student selectivity, financial resources, alumni giving, and, for national universities and national liberal arts colleges, graduation rate performance and high school counselor ratings of colleges.
