Dr. Margaret Guccione '69 Elected to Saint Joseph's College Board of Trustees
Dr. Margaret "Peggy" Guccione '69 has been elected to the Saint Joseph's College Board of Trustees. Guccione graduated from SJC with a Bachelor of Science in Geology and earned her Master of Geology from Miami University of Ohio in 1972. In 1979, Guccione took a job at the University of Arkansas, where she is currently a professor in the Department of Geosciences. While working, she earned her doctoral degree in Geology from the University of Colorado in 1982.
Guccione is a member of several organizations, including the Geological Society of America, Association for Women Geoscientists, American Quaternary Association, and Ft. Smith Geological Society. She volunteers at the Walton Arts Center in Fayetteville, Ark., and her hobbies include reading and resurrecting and refinishing old houses.
A member of the SJC Board of Trustees' Academic Affairs Committee, Guccione has several personal goals relative to SJC.
"I want to ensure that SJC remains a premier undergraduate college that trains students to be successful in education throughout their lives in both formal and informal settings," said Guccione. "SJC should train and encourage its students to be broad in their interests and to see their passions within a holistic and worldwide view. It should also train them to be focused in particular areas aligned with their interests and talents, allowing them to contribute to their family, community, society, nation, church, and world."
Guccione resides with her husband, Doy Zachry, in Fayetteville, Ark. She has one son, Michael.
Saint Joseph's College, named a "character-building college" by the Templeton Foundation and a "best Midwestern college" by the Princeton Review, is a four-year, Catholic college offering 27 majors, 4 group majors, 34 minors, and 9 pre-professional programs, complemented by the nationally acclaimed Core Program. Founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, SJC is located in Rensselaer, Indiana, approximately 90 minutes from both Chicago and Indianapolis, on a park-like campus of 180 acres and has an enrollment of 1,100 students.
