Saint Joseph's College to Honor Fr. Lawrence Heiman, C.PP.S. '40
With the start of the Rensselaer Program of Church Music and Liturgy's 2012 summer semester, Saint Joseph's College will host the Rensselaer Legacy Weekend to honor the program's founder, Fr. Lawrence Heiman, C.PP.S. '40.
The Rensselaer Legacy Weekend will be held Friday, July 13, and Saturday, July 14. Alumni of the Rensselaer Program of Church Music and Liturgy will be invited to partake in several events, including a cookout at Lake Banet where participants can share stories about Fr. Heiman and their time in the program.
On Saturday, all are welcome to gather in the Evans Arts and Science Building Robinson Memorial Library at 1:30 pm CDT for "Tributes and Reflections," a time for recalling some of the many contributions Fr. Heiman made to the practice of liturgical music in the United States. At 7:00 pm CDT, the Summer Chorus Concert will be held in the Saint Joseph's Chapel followed by a reception in the Founder's Room on the SJC campus. The Founder's Room can be accessed through Schwietermann Hall or the lower level of the Chapel. Admission for the concert and reception is free and all are welcome to attend.
The Rensselaer Program of Church Music and Liturgy, the country's longest-serving educational program of its kind, provides opportunities for study in liturgy and church music with outstanding faculty in a summers-only format on the SJC campus.
