SJC Welcomes Guests to Indiana Private College Week
From Monday, July 25 through Friday, July 29, Saint Joseph's College will join other colleges and universities across the state in welcoming students, parents, and any others involved in the college selection process. Those visiting will get to experience firsthand the unique personality of each campus through tours, informational sessions, and conversations with students and staff.
A complete list of participating campuses, as well as their event schedules, is available at www.indianacollegechoices.org. Advance registration is encouraged but not required, other than for those campuses offering individually scheduled tours.
This event is a first for the Independent Colleges of Indiana and its member campuses, although similar weeks have been held in such states as Wisconsin, Iowa, and Minnesota for some years now. Although ICI campuses encourage and welcome visitors throughout the year, this concentrated week offers the opportunity to experience one or more campuses in a less formal way during the summer. It also allows students who may not have ever considered attending one of Indiana's independent colleges to begin to explore that option.
According to research conducted by Eduventures, 71 percent of high-school students identify the campus visit as the most trusted source of information about a college. There's certainly no better way for students to experience the "feel" of a campus and to discover their "best fit" for college.
"Sometimes, parents and students rule out the possibility of attending one of Indiana's independent colleges and universities based on preconceived notions about costs, without ever learning about the tremendous financial aid available," says Richard L. Ludwick, ICI president and CEO. "We want every student to consider the high quality academics, personal attention, and higher graduation rates that distinguish our campuses."
Visitors between the ages of 16 and 20 touring one or more ICI campuses during Private College Week will have the chance to enter a drawing for an Apple iPad. Entry forms and rules will be available at each campus.
Independent Colleges of Indiana, Inc. (ICI) is a nonprofit association that represents the state's 31 private nonprofit colleges and universities. ICI member institutions enroll more than 87,000 students (approximately 20 percent of all students statewide) and annually produce 35 percent of all bachelor's degrees in Indiana.
