Pumas Win Third Straight
The Saint Joseph's College volleyball team defeated the University of Illinois Springfield in a thrilling 3-2 match on Friday evening at the TRAC Center in Springfield, Illinois.
Trailing 2-1 after three sets the Pumas (7-8, 2-3 GLVC) completely controlled the fourth set, winning 25-14. With their backs against the wall SJC hit .355 in the fourth frame to force a decisive fifth set. At times the Prairie Stars (4-11, 0-5 GLVC) looked to take the fifth set, but the Pumas rallied again needing extra points to claim the 18-16 victory of the set and match.
Sharon Freund (Jr., McHenry, Ill./Johsburg) finished a big night with a .375 hitting percentage, 21 kills, and 12 digs. Leah Zehme (So., Orland Park, Ill/Carl Sandburg) added 12 kills and 13 digs while Erin Brocker (Jr., Crystal Lake, Ill./Marian Central Catholic) dished out a career-high 53 assists.
The Pumas will travel to Quincy, Illinois on Saturday to play Quincy University. The match is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. CDT.
