SJC Seniors to Dazzle Viewers at Art Show
Rensselaer, Ind. – The opening reception for the Senior Portfolio Art Show will be held Saturday, November 7th, from 7:00-9:00 p.m. CST in the Saint Joseph's College Core Education Center Foyer. There will also be a faculty and student viewing on Monday, November 9th, from 3:00-5:00 p.m. CST at the same location.
The students whose work will be featured at the show include Kathleen Grady of Kokomo, Ind.; Jessie McBroom of Lowell, Ind.; Kristel Miller of Rensselaer, Ind.; Amber Suding of Brookville, Ind.; and Katie Vanderkolk of Bluffton, Ind.
This year's show will feature a new format, with Grady's stop-action film being shown three times during the show's opening. Vanderkolk's projection/drawing experience, Suding's bookmaking and mixed media projects, Miller's painting, ceramics and mixed media projects, and McBroom's abstract landscapes will also be on display.
"All of the art in this show is very conceptually sophisticated," said SJC Assistant Professor of Art Dana Zier. "The seniors have undertaken some challenging and unique projects, from Kristel Miller painting encaustic (mixing pigment with wax) to Katie Vanderkolk's projected images. We are all looking forward to a fantastic show."
The seniors are also looking forward to displaying their works, which consumed a lot of time and took a great deal of effort to complete. Kathleen Grady's stop-action film, for example, took around 35 hours to finish.
"As an artist, it's great to see a concept come full circle," said Vanderkolk. "I'm also glad that I got to add in a series of paintings from another class that I didn't anticipate having in the show originally. I think they work well together."
