SJC Defeats S&T to End 2009 Campaign
The Saint Joseph's College women's soccer team defeated Missouri Science andTechnology 1-0 on Sunday at Joseph L. Minielli Memorial Field.
The Pumas controlled possession for a majority of the first half, as they had a heavy 20 mile per hour wind at their backs. In the 17th minute, Melissa Buche (Jr., Lowell, Ind./Lowell) charged the S&T net, firing a shot that was deflected out towards the center of the field to Rosie Headley (Jr., Hudsonville, Ind./Grand Rapids Central Catholic). Headley drew the keeper out of the net by faking a shot as she simultaneously turned and fired back to a charging Allie Reiners (Fr., Sunman, Ind./East Central) who knocked home the empty net goal.
The Pumas ended the half strong leading 1-0. However, the Miners would have the wind in their favor for the second half. S&T formulated a decisive attack in the second half, firing nine shots at keeper Sarah Croskrey (Jr., Santa Cruz, Calif./Scotts Valley). Croskey provided a stable defensive force making 13 saves on the afternoon to complete the shut out.
The Pumas finished the 2009 campaign 3-14 with a 2-12 mark in the Great Lakes Valley Conference.
