SJC's College Band to Welcome Spring with a Bang
The Saint Joseph's College Band will present its annual Spring Concert on Sunday, March 29, at 3:00 p.m. CDT in the Halleck Center Ballroom. The Wind Ensemble, Flute Choir, Jazz Band, and Symphonic Band will be performing. The concert is free to all who attend.
The Wind Ensemble, which is the top instrumental group, will play "Amaparito Roca" by Jaime Texidor, a work which reflects the Spanish national pastime of bullfighting. The group will also perform selections from "The Dark Knight" soundtrack, "National Emblem," which is a march second in popularity only to Sousa's "Stars and Stripes Forever," by E.E. Bagley, and "La Virgen de la Macarena," originally arranged for The Canadian Brass. The Wind Ensemble will also be touring on April 6, 7, and 8, traveling to Kankakee Valley High School, Fieler Elementary School in Merrillville, Ind., Evergreen High School in Lyons, Ohio, Ottawa-Glandorf High School in Ottawa, Ohio, and Winchester Community High School in Winchester, Ind.
The Flute Choir will play tunes from Vivaldi's "The Four Seasons" as well as well as Debussy's "Claire de Lune," and the Symphonic Band will play two medleys, "Suite" from "Harry Potter," and "The Beatles," a medley of songs from the famous Liverpool quartet. The Symphonic Band will be directed by two Music Education majors who will be graduating this spring: Lisa Guzman from Griffith, Ind., and Shanna Tobar from Logansport, Ind.
The Wind Ensemble will be directed by Associate Professor of Music Dr. Robb Thiel, and Associate Professor of Communication Sally Berger will be directing the Flute Choir. The Jazz Band will be directed by Assistant Professor of Music Dr. Paul Geraci.
"I hope to see everyone there as we honor our sixteen seniors and their contributions to the College and the music program. This is a very talented senior class that will be greatly missed next year," said Thiel.
Saint Joseph's College, named a "character-building college" by the Templeton Foundation and a "best Midwestern college" by the Princeton Review, is a four-year, Catholic, liberal arts college offering 75 major, minor and pre-professional programs.
