people who are experiencing problems in everyday living.
Fact 2: Social Work incorporates many different fields
of study, imparting the knowledge, values, and skills that professionals
need to work in a variety of careers.
Fact 3: Many Social Work majors pursue careers in hospitals,
nursing homes, substance abuse outpatient facilities, government, child
welfare, and mental health services.

at SJC?
Variety: The Social Work Department at SJC
offers you the choice of classes in various fields of study including
statistics, research, and social work. You also have the option of electives
from other disciplines that consist of courses in Communication, Political
Science, Art, Sociology, English, and others.
Dedication to Excellence: Social Work majors
at SJC are required to take credits in Field Placement.
This course ensures that students will have the practical experience
they need to be prepared for careers in Social Work.
Hands-on Experience: The faculty at SJC
encourage all of their students to pursue internships. Common internships
in the Social Work Department include involvement with the Kankakee Valley
Workforce Development Center, Jasper County Crisis Center, Jasper County
Department of Public Welfare, Rensselaer Police Department, Jasper County
Community Services, Birthright, Rensselaer Central School Corporation,
Jasper County Correctional Center, and Medaryville Correctional Facility.
