Why Physical
Education?
Fact 1: The focus of physical education is not on sports.
Fact 2: Students who study physical education further
develop critical-thinking skills and psychomotor abilities (the combination
of mind and body).
Fact 3: Many Physical Education majors pursue careers
in teaching, child development, personal fitness training, athletic training,
recreational management, and sports management.

Why Physical
Education at SJC?
Variety: When studying Physical Education at SJC, you can choose to major in Non-Teaching Physical Education or minor in Physical Education to complement your Education degree. You can also minor in Athletic Training, a program that provides undergraduate preparation for most Commission on Accredited Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited master's degree programs in athletic training.
Dedication to Excellence: At SJC, you are challenged from the beginning. You can find out early through introductory courses if Physical Education is the right major for you.
Hands-on Experience: The faculty at SJC encourage
all of their students to pursue internships. Common internships in the
Physical Education Department include work in the Rensselaer Care Center,
Jasper County Youth Center, Jasper County Hospital Rehabilitation and
Sports Therapy Department, and a number of summer camps. Many students
in the Physical Education Department act as peer educators, personal trainers,
assistants to athletic trainers, and fitness monitors for the campus wellness
