Why Philosophy?

and problem-solving skills used every day.
Fact 3: With a degree in Philosophy, you can go to law
school, pursue a graduate degree, join a ministry, or use your degree
as preparation for business work, where you will need the skills to write
and think clearly.

Why Philosophy
at SJC?
Variety: When studying Philosophy at SJC,
you are given the choice to concentrate on Philosophy or Religion/Philosophy.
- Philosophy: You can investigate, in a systematic way, fundamental questions about reality, truth, and value. You will learn how to think clearly, organize coherently, and analyze insightfully, skills important in any career.
- Religion/Philosophy: You can study spirituality and scripture and its interpretation. This major is open to everyone, regardless of their belief systems. For students interested in a graduate degree in theology/ministry, this is excellent preparation.
Hands-on Experience: Philosophy students at SJC are encouraged to participate in internships at various locations, many being law firms. Religion/Philosophy students may participate in practica and internships in liturgical, retreat, or other forms of ministry. ( Success Stories)
Faculty and Class Size: Our Philosophy Department consists of professors and clergy who each hold at least one doctorate degree in their fields of expertise. In classes ranging between 7 and 10 students, they can tailor classes to meet your needs and give you the personal attention you deserve. (Faculty Profiles)
