Why Nursing
at SJC?
Career Track: Students can earn credits from SJC and receive a four-year Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing (BSN) through Saint Joseph's College. At the completion of the four-year program, students can earn a diploma in nursing from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing in Lafayette, Indiana.
Note: Due to the large number of courses offered at St. Elizabeth's
in Lafayette and variety of clinical sites located in Rensselaer, Lafayette,
and Indianapolis, students must have regular access to transportation
in order to adequately meet the requirements of both the RN and BSN programs.
SJC's Nursing Program offers a quality nursing education within the Christian
context of a healing ministry. It will also prepare you for the numerous
ethical issues you will face on the job every day of your career. By examining
current medicinal practices and comparing them to Christian values, you'll
be able to complement your medical knowledge as a nurse with a strong
moral foundation.
Dedication to Excellence: Freshmen are required to take 19 credits a semester at SJC their first year, which includes sections of the College's nationally-recognized Core Program, and to complete clinical work in Jasper County Hospital and Rensselaer Care Center. The second, third, and fourth years involve specialized nursing courses at St. Elizabeth's, with a focus on specialized areas that may involve clinical sites in Rensselaer, Lafayette, and Indianapolis.
Hands-on Experience: At SJC, we take pride
in providing our students with the hands-on experience they need to survive
in the work force. The Nursing Program at SJC offers opportunities through
St. Elizabeth Hospital, Rensselaer Care Center, Jasper County Hospital,
and various clinics. (Success Stories)
Faculty and Class Size: All Nursing faculty
at SJC possess a master's degree in Nursing (MSN) and up-to-date experience
to teach you the most current medical procedures. Class sizes are approximately
7 or 8 students per instructor. (Faculty
