Prayer and Spirituality Programs
The Huddle
The Huddle is a Campus Ministry sponsored group that consists mainly of current athletes and coaches and meets once a month for an hour. Discussion and prayer are two central components that foster the interrelationship of spirit to spirituality and character development. These meetings provide for a meaningful context to encounter other athletes on a "real" level. Days and times will be promoted on campus.
Guys and God
Perhaps you graduated from an all-male high school and found value in praying and talking together as "guys." Perhaps you have found men's prayer groups meaningful at your parish. Perhaps you are interested in gathering, having honest conversations, and exploring masculine spirituality with members of your same-gender peer group. Meetings are once a month, for one hour. Days and times will be promoted on campus.
Girls and God
Perhaps you graduated from an all-female high school and found value in praying and talking together as one gender. Perhaps you have found women's prayer groups meaningful in your parish. Perhaps you are interested in gathering, having honest conversations, and exploring feminine spirituality with members of your same-gender peer group. Meetings are once a month, for one hour. Days and times will be promoted on campus.
Peer Ministry
Peer ministers are trained for leadership roles in the many programs sponsored by the department for skills that will have applications in many dimensions of life, particularly as we present retreats to high school students.
Rosary
A decade of the rosary is prayed every day, 7:00 p.m., in front of the Blessed Sacrament in the Chapel. This is student led.
Eucharistic Adoration
Eucharistic Adoration occurs every Sunday during the academic year from 3:00 - 4:00 in the East Oratory (side chapel).
Lenten Labyrinth
A Labyrinth will be set-up in the Halleck Center Ballroom one day during Lent for prayer and meditation. The date and time will be posted on campus.
Taizé Prayer
Taizé Prayer is Christian contemplation that is offered in the Chapel once each semester and combines scripture, chant, silence, and community to create a peaceful environment in which one can be "alone together" with God. This is an ecumenical prayer experience.
Team Commissioning Masses
Each seasonal sport will gather in the Chapel at the beginning of its respective season for a Team Commissioning Liturgy. During the celebration of the Eucharist, the celebrant will bless each athlete's hands with water and her/his head coach will ceremoniously confer a blessed saint medal attached to a necklace around the neck of the athlete.
Team Spirituality
There has been a long tradition at Saint Joseph's College of having a priest pray with and bless a particular team games. This reminds our athletes and coaches of the reason for our being and our being together.
