Catholic Character
The Mission statement of Saint Joseph's College begins, "Saint Joseph's College (Indiana), a primarily undergraduate Catholic college, founded and sponsored by the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, pledges itself to a tradition of excellence and to a liberal education that is a united endeavor of intelligence and faith."
This is clearly in line with what the late Pope John Paul II wrote in Ex Corde Ecclesia. The constitution reads, "Catholic universities...are called to explore courageously the riches of revelation and of nature so that the united endeavor of intelligence and faith will enable people to come to the full measure of their humanity."
Through our ministry of higher education, students have the opportunity to experience and participate in this endeavor. Within academics, social relationships, athletics, and spiritual development, it is the College's mission to see that the united endeavor of intelligence and faith takes root in each student.
Our Catholic character is evident in two key areas. First, our Core Curriculum strives to instill Gospel values in the students and assists in integrating those values in their lives. Secondly, through Campus Ministry, students have the opportunity to develop their relationship with Christ through liturgies, social justice, and spiritual development. All students, Catholics and non-Catholics, are welcome to participate in the many Campus Ministry programs offered throughout the year.
