Furnishings
Your residence hall will be furnished with desks, chairs, dressers, twin
beds, closets, and window treatments – the rest is up to you!
Ideas for what to bring include:
• School supplies
• Clothes
(Just what you need until you can go home and can get more; it’s
also a good idea to have a dress outfit—you never know when you’ll
need to look your best!)
• Calendar
• Computer
• Telephone (one per room)
• Refrigerator - 2.9 cubic foot/1.5 amp maximum (one per room)
• Microwave - 700 watt maximum (one per room)
• Lofts - Only Universal Furnishings, Inc. lofts are permitted. www.sspcoinc.com
• Alarm clock
• Radio
• Towels
• Shower shoes
• Umbrella
• Bed linens, pillows, mattress cover, blanket
(Note: All beds are 36x80 except those in Justin Hall, which are 36x75)
• Laundry detergent and softener sheets
• Trash can
• UL-approved power strips
• Desk lamp
• Coffee pot with automatic shut-off
• Iron and ironing board
• Posters
• TV
• VCR and/or DVD
• Video game system (Nintendo, Playstation, Playstation 2, Xbox)
• Board games
• Playing cards
• Pictures of family and friends
• Memo board for your front door
• Fish tank (10-gallon maximum)
• Toiletries
• Medications
• Flashlight
• Adhesive to secure wall hangings
(We recommend 3-M Command Strips—they come off the walls/doors without
causing damage. We do not recommend two-way tape)
The following items are not permitted
in SJC residence halls:
• Candles
• Incense
• Pets other than fish
• Open heating elements, including but not limited to: toasters,
hot pots, hot plates, broilers, space heaters, ovens, kerosene heaters,
toaster ovens, electric grills, or electric fry pans/skillets
• Outside antennae
• Fireworks
• Wood paneling
• Double-sided carpet tape
• Items that hang from the ceiling
• Dartboards that use metal tips
• Padded carpet (fire/safety concerns)
• Waterbeds
Note: The above lists are not intended
to be all-inclusive. Please use your discretion in what items to bring
and what items to leave at home. Remember, you will be sharing a room
with limited space.
