SJC activities, clubs & leadership:
I am on the Cross Country and Track and Field Team.
How did you hear about SJC? Why did you choose SJC?
My older sister Fkrti Negassi ‘14 is a Biology major at SJC. I chose SJC because it is a small school that is close to home and because I wanted to be with my sister. Also, because the College is a Catholic school, it has helped me expand my knowledge of Christianity.
Are you getting financial aid and if so, what kind? How is it helping you to attend SJC and making a private college education affordable?
I am receiving the SJC Deans Scholarship and a Track and Field Scholarship. Because I am one of three sisters attending SJC, it is hard for my family to pay for my tuition. My sister Fkrti Negassi ‘14 is a senior Biology major, and my younger sister Hirut Negassi ‘17 is a freshman. My scholarships help my family a lot.
The Core Program
I like the Core Program because it teaches us about ancient civilizations and makes connections to the modern era and how society functions. I also like Core because it teaches us about different cultures and how learning about those cultures can help us learn about our own cultural values. I am looking forward to Core 9 because it is about Christian humanism. I believe all that I learn in the Core Program will help me in the future because it has shown me different aspects of society and how to better understand different cultures.
How have the faculty mentored you or given you personal attention?
The faculty at SJC are wonderful. I like the fact that the student-faculty ratio is 13:1. If I need anything, the professors are always there to help. All of my professors want to see me become successful; they are always encouraging me to work hard.
As a Catholic or a non-Catholic, how do you feel about your faith and your opportunities for service at SJC?
SJC is a small school, where everyone knows everyone. It is a close-knit friendly community.
What are your plans for the future or what career plans do you have?
I want to be a math teacher.
