Graduate Assistantships are awarded on a competitive basis to highly qualified, degree-seeking graduate students in the Forensic Entomology Graduate Program. These awards provide an annual stipend of up to $13,000 and may include tuition and fee assistance. Graduate Assistants gain important experience by assisting professors in their teaching and research. The specific details of your assistantship will be determined by your supervisor. You will be expected to devote a predetermined number of hours every week to your assigned duties. To keep an assistantship you must remain in good academic standing (3.00 gpa), and you must be enrolled in at least 6 hours per semester. You are not required to work during holidays and vacation times observed by the college. For more information about Graduate Assistantship opportunities contact Dr. Anne Perez at email@example.com.
Courses are taken to reach credit-hour minimum requirements, along with a research component or capstone internship experience. The capstone experience in the thesis program is the successful completion of the research and ultimately the defense of the thesis. In addition, real-world cases are used to demonstrate proper analysis and conclusions of cases. Also, proper court testimony is learned from participation in the expert witness class. These experiences cover all areas of knowledge, skills, practical laboratory experiences, and crime scene evidence collection and interpretations.
The Forensic Entomology thesis program has specific courses identified to enhance the understanding, provide needed learning, and prepare the student to conduct analysis in cases that have entomological evidence. The amount of coursework required will depend on the nature of the degree the applicant holds (Entomology-based degrees could qualify applicant for fewer required courses). Students choose among a variety of courses of varying credit hours to come to the required number of credit hours.
