Thunderbird Installation
To install Thunderbird on your personal computer, go to the following site to download Thunderbird depending on your operating system:
For Windows:
- Click on Thunderbird Setup.exe.
- From the "Welcome to Mozilla Thunderbird" screen choose Next.
- Click on the button next to Accept License Agreement then choose Next.
- From the "Setup Type" screen, choose Custom and select Next.
- On the "Install folder" page, use the defaults and select Next.
- From the "Select Component Page" do not put a check next to the following:
- Quality Feedback Agent
- RSS Support
- Offline Support
- On the "Setup Shortcuts" page, uncheck the "In my quick launch bar". Then click Next.
- Then click on "Next" again. Thunderbird will now install.
- When it asks, you do not need to "Launch Mozilla Thunderbird now".
- Choose Finish.
For Mac:
- Open the Thunderbird dmg file
- Drag the Thunderbird icon to your Applications directory
SJC's Mail Settings
In Thunderbird: Tools -> Account Settings
- Select "Server Settings" and enter the following:
- Server Type: imap
- Server Name: imap.saintjoe.edu
- Port: default
- Select "Outgoing Server (SMTP)" and enter the following:
(If you reside on campus, follow these instructions, otherwise use your Internet Service Provider's outgoing mail settings) - Server Name: smtp.saintjoe.edu
- Port: default
- "Use name and password" should be unchecked
- Click "OK"
SJC's LDAP Address Book Settings
In Thunderbird: Tools -> Account Settings -> Composition & Addressing -> Addressing -> When looking up addresses:
- Check "Use a different LDAP server:"
- Click "Edit Directories"
- On the "LDAP Directory Servers" window, click "Add" and enter the following:
- Name: Saint Joseph's College
- Hostname: ldap.saintjoe.edu
- Base DN: o=Saint Josephs College,c=US
- Port number: default
- Leave "Bind DN:" blank; "use secure connection (SSL)" should be unchecked
- Click "OK" twice
- Select "Saint Joseph's College" from the "Use a different LDAP server:" dropdown.
- Click "OK"
