Computer Responsibilities
Update Requirements
It is the student's responsibility to keep their copy of Microsoft Windows updated by applying the latest service packs and patches. You can stay current by using the "Windows Update" utility found on your computer or these updates can be found by visiting Microsoft's website at: http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com
Anti-virus Requirement
All machines connecting to the SJC network MUST have anti-virus software installed, running and updated regularly.
Saint Joseph's College has entered into an agreement with Sophos to offer anti-virus software to all students to install on their personal computers. There will be no additional charge for the software and no other anti-virus package will be needed as long as you are a student attending Saint Joseph's College. You must remove the software when you leave or graduate from Saint Joseph's College.
If you wish to use Sophos ant-virus you must first uninstall any anti-virus software installed on your computer.
To install the anti-virus program please download the installer below:
You may also choose to use your own anti-virus software package. With either option, you must keep the software up to date.
What are my responsibilities?
Students must have an Ethernet adapter installed and have an RJ-45 cable to connect their computer to the network. Each student must handle any non-network-related problems that arise with his/her computer. Anti-virus software must be downloaded and installed for all Windows machines. Students must keep both their operating system and/or their anti-virus software package patched and updated. It is also a good idea to bring your computer software disks with you should you encounter a problem and need to reinstall your operating system or any other program currently installed on your machine.
Please note, the person registered in the Computer Center as the owner of the computer system is responsible for that computer and all activity generated by the computer.
